WELCOME TO DAVIDSON COUNTY
The innovative region of Davidson County is one of seven counties situated in Middle Tennessee, one of the state’s three grand sectors. As recorded by the census of 2000, Davidson County had 569,891 people residing within its area. Its county seat is none other than Nashville, The Music City, which is also the state capital. In the year 1963, the government of the city of Nashville and Davidson County unified, so the county government is now recognized as the "Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County", or its more widely known shortened version, "Metro Nashville". Davidson County came to be one of the first in the nation to unify its regional government and therefore form an integrated metro government. This pioneering government plan continues to be a nationwide standard and creates a simpler way of life for the residents of Davidson County.
The state boundary line of N. Carolina initially stretched all the way to the Mississippi River. Washington County was then formed by the N. Carolina Senate and comprised everything of what is currently the state of Tennessee. Then in 1783, the N. Carolina Senate formed Davidson County in what is currently Middle Tennessee from a section of Washington County.
